Learning the World
Since I’ve been blogging, I have learned a lot about the world. My humble blog has had views from a few places I’d never heard of before. Today it was Mayotte.
Every time I see a place I don’t recognize, I make a point to find out about it. I love to investigate and research, so spread the word (and the blog link) around so I can continue to learn new things!
Yuck!
I’m sure most people know how I feel about needles. Fortunately, Ysabela is fine with having blood drawn. I leave the room every time the “mosquito” person enters the room. I know my limitations.
Due to running out of her thyroid meds, Bela’s numbers were all out of whack—totally my fault for not getting her there on time for blood work and a refill. We have the prescription in hand and an appointment for exactly one month from today. This will be back under control ASAP. Nobody’s perfect.
Massage
I had the chance to have a leisurely day yesterday. I enjoyed the luxury of sleeping late, sipping my coffee and checking email while the rest of the inhabitants of the house continued with their beauty sleep. After my initial slothfulness, I took a shower, loaded trash and headed to my only appointment scheduled for the day (unless you count a hungry horse). You may wonder why I showered before taking out the trash. Good question, but relatively simple to answer. I had an appointment for a massage at 11:30.
A lady in town operates Sandhills Horizon Massage. She, Rebecca W., was kind enough to offer teachers a free 30-minute massage! I wasn’t about to let my certificate expire! I learned that the muscles in my forearm were stuck together. I spend a lot of time writing and typing, so it makes sense. My session was so very relaxing that I plan to make it a regular treat. My daughter will enjoy one in the very near future.

New Series
Thanks to our local librarian (Julie), I have discovered a Nebraska author I love! Her books are amazing mysteries, and I have nearly read my way through her entire Maggie O’Dell series. When I have more time, I’ll review one of her books for you. In the meantime, you should check her out for yourself. You won’t regret it.
Try the World
I’m always searching for cool things to try, so my first adventure (for Bela) was LootCrate. My friend, Lisa, was telling me how cool it was, so we tried it.
I stumbled upon the Try the World boxes recently, and when I got the “buy the Japan box, get the Paris box free,” I figured it was as good a time as any to give Try the World a shot. Our box of food came today! It was heavier than I had anticipated, but I took it home joyfully.
Friendtender
Is there a “friendtender” in your life? You probably have never heard the word. I hadn’t either until it popped into my head at four this morning as I was preparing for work. Even if you don’t know the word, you know what I’m talking about—a fake friend. A pretender…someone who says s/he is a friend to you, but actions prove otherwise. My daughter has at least one friendtender in her life. Just watching events unfold makes me angry.
Friendtenders are, by nature, sneaky. The real self only shows in certain circumstances—usually when they think they are unobserved. They can be charming, upbeat and smiling…until something great happens to someone who is supposedly a friend. That’s when the storm clouds take over. I’ve watched it happen. My daughter and one friendtender were just chatting happily one day when my daughter had something wonderful interrupt their chat. The friendtender and I listened as a guy asked my daughter to a dance. I took one look at the friendtender and saw the anger on her face. That’s when it hit home that this friendtender was furious. She was furious, and I was flabbergasted.
At any rate, friendtenders are like toxins. Cut all ties as quickly as possible because the “friendship” is going nowhere. If a “friend” has a mysterious mood swing (happy to indifferent or even nasty) every time something exciting happens in your life, that’s your first clue. Put some distance between you and the “friend” immediately. It only gets worse.
LootCrate!
I ordered my daughter a LootCrate (for the second time). When I picked it up from the post office yesterday, I opened it to get a sneak peek. (I’m bad, I know.) Ysabela was thrilled to unpack it herself.
