Sicker than Sh—

I’ll bet I know what you were expecting me to say…. Well, that’s not it! I was going to say that I am sicker than Sheldon (The Big Bang). The beginning of the flu episode is below. Coincidentally, I watched it this week. The funniest part was when Howard forgot the protocol from the last time Sheldon was sick.

Bela came into the bedroom where I was playing dead. She took a few pictures of me and the pups. Let me start with Monday, though….

I was feeling crappy Monday evening with a sore throat that had bugged me all day. I came home and was in bed by seven. Yes, 7:00. I managed to work Tuesday, but not yesterday or today. According to the doctor, I’m out until Monday.

All of the time spent horizontal allowed me to ponder a few interesting things….like why do the pups have to sleep with their butts touching me? Why is it so difficult to make it from the bed to the potty? That was as far as my thoughts went before I nodded off. I woke up and concluded that those little dogs sure did keep me warmer than I would have been by myself. I also concluded that the bathroom was almost too far away.

Bela said I looked dead. That's almost how I felt.

Addicted!

Thanks to my students, I have discovered a new game. I am now addicted to it…it’s true. I am a crack addict. Trivia Crack, that is. Players can choose to play in several languages, so I challenged my Spanish students to play against me in Spanish. Win or lose, the kids will have a chance to test their language skills. I recently began requiring students to complete four hours of listening to podcasts or playing games outside of class, so I am giving 30 minutes of credit for playing Trivia Crack in Spanish.

Ready, Set, GO!

I have noticed that I am getting less and less tolerant of everything. I have never been the most patient person, but lately I have even less than normal. Kids misbehaving? STOP! Kids who don’t want to put in time to learn? FAIL! I can’t make people do anything, so I will allow everyone to make choices based on their goals in life. After all, I have to decide for myself. If I want to earn a living, I’ll work hard. If I want to succeed or learn a special skill, I will find a way to do it, not make an excuse for why I can’t. What all this means is that I am ready for a break! I can be packed in about ten minutes.

I’ve been looking at old photos from Mexico, and I am missing some friends and places. I’m sure you can tell by what I have posted recently! The first chance I get, I’m heading south for a few days. There are plenty of places for me to crash without worrying about paying hotel prices. I could spend days catching up with friends. We stay in touch with Facebook, but it’s not the same as sitting down over coffee.

Hopefully, one day soon I will be posting some up-dated photos of friends and places in Mexico. Until then, I will try to be more patient….

The Faces of Innocence?

By now, you should know that I love my furry kids.  They have a knack for looking so sweet and innocent, but then they do something nutty like order $75 worth of text books or open what looks like a hundred search screens on my laptop.  Ever had a cat unpause your music?  Yes, all that really happened.

Smokey, our calico dilute, was “helping” me shop on Amazon once.  I had added three college books to my cart and was trying to decide whether to order then or wait a few days.  Smokey, with her infinite wisdom, thought I needed them right then, so she jumped up on the keyboard and hit the order button.  Bela was very supportive—if laughing hysterically can qualify.

It wasn’t so funny when the music was started and the lyrics were…..questionable.  🙂

Purrful may look innocent, but she is dreaming of things to do!

Ball Chairs in the Classroom?

Oh, yes!  We received four of the yoga ball chairs today thanks to one anonymous donor who graced our school with this incredible gift through http://www.donorschoose.org/ over Christmas vacation.  The news totally made my holiday!  It made it even better when I discovered a young teacher friend also had her project funded.  Happy dance!!!!

Jodi, our super secretary, told me the boxes had arrived, so my fifth period class came down the hall with me to get them.  My great class of problem solvers put the chairs together, then took turns enjoying them during class.  It was an awesome day!  We can’t wait to create our thank-you package.  🙂

They sure are comfortable!
