Feeling Like a Real Mom

After a brutal week (and it’s just Wednesday!), I was finally able to make a decent supper for my girl.  I dropped the girls (Bela and her friend Gen) off for air rifle practice and saw Gen’s dad on the way home.  Thanks to his willingness to get the girls, I could actually stay home and fix supper.  It was almost ready by the time Glenn’s vehicle rolled into the driveway.  She said she could smell bacon outside.  (No, it wasn’t burned!)

Bela loves bacon and pancakes!

Isn’t it amazing how something as simple as cooking a meal can make you feel like a rock star?

Learning the Ropes

Today was the first shooting match in which Bela could have competed, but she didn’t feel ready.  I took Bela and her friend, Gen, to the Hyannis high school so we could observe how things are run.  Shooters register on arrival, make a note of which group they are in and amuse themselves until shooting time.  Bela and Gen watched for a bit, but we noticed that many kids had brought their iPads, phones or other devices to kill time while they waited.  After the girls discovered an open connection, it was (as the saying goes) all over but the crying.

I spent my time chatting and laughing with (and at) some of the other moms.  I was told that normally the moms pack some snacks to avoid concession stand prices.  I learned quite a bit about shooting, too.  Most of us were there as cheerleaders more than coaches anyway.

Free breakfast is a really big deal!

The girls got free breakfast, thanks to my favorite gas station.  🙂  I even had egg rolls.  After four hours at the high school, it was time to dash back home so I could finish my laundry (at work and home!).  We saw some deer, so I (of course) pulled over to take a look.  Once I got home and checked the camera, I discovered that I had taken 115 pics today!

Wonderful Webinar=Homeschool Help

Tonight I spent some of my valuable time to attend a wonderful webinar hosted by Lee Binz. You can find her online at the links below. Binz is a knowledgeable, experienced homeschool mom who willingly helps others succeed. She spent over an hour sharing her expertise with a crowd of eager parents/teachers. I was glad I got in on this webinar because now I feel much calmer about creating my daughter’s homeschool transcript. Let me say now that when I attend a webinar, I’m usually up for coffee or something, but tonight I had on headphones and was glued to my chair!

Binz gave freebies during the webinar, and at the end, she offered some of her most useful products for purchase. I hadn’t thought about buying anything, but I realized that I really wanted (and needed) some of her transcript templates. When I bought the bundle for the economical price of $47, I received freebies worth so much more!

If you are a homeschool parent, you should really check out what she has to offer. It just might change your whole perspective.

Candy’s Cupcakery

I took a personal day to head to North Platte to do some errands, and Bela and I made time to stop by Candy’s Cupcakery. Cassandra, the owner, made Ysabela’s cake for her 15th birthday party last year. There were so many tasty looking items that it was hard to choose! Bela finally settled on a piece of chocolate cheesecake, and I ordered a giant (and I mean giant!) sticky bun. It’s about the size of a dinner plate!  We were so stuffed from Dairy Queen, however, that we are saving our treats until tomorrow. My sticky bun will be a wonderful breakfast in the morning. 🙂

For those in North Platte or anywhere close enough to visit, you shouldn’t miss the chance to stop in and say hello.  Just in case you didn’t know, Candy’s Cupcakery offers soups as well as sweets.  The cupcakes have filling inside, and Cassandra’s cakes are spectacular.

Weather Cats

Many people I have talked to swear their pets are more accurate weather forecasters than the those on the Weather Channel. I happen to agree. My cats were literally bouncing off the walls this morning. I knew it was going to be an interesting day!

Poppy started her day by opening the cabinets and drawers at every opportunity.  Usually Smokey is involved, but she was too busy playing chase with Lil Devil.

Poppy was practicing her cat burglar skills.

My little cats knew we were getting more than an inch or two of snow.  This isn’t the first time they’ve been right!
