These girls with Mo, the young roo, are starting to lay eggs. It’s been slow. In the last week or so, I have collected about 6 total, but that number should increase soon.
I have four sex link hens, four Cemani girls, Diva the Turken and Elvira the Zombie hen.

After the long week I’ve had, I am going to be lazy and post some pictures for you.

Have a great day!
YES! You may remember that I got nine new chicks on Mother’s Day. I really thought I was done for this round. Brian hoped I was finished.
One of my older hens dropped dead a week later, and I realized that my established flock is getting to that age. I also wanted more colors in my egg basket.
I went to TSC for critter food and started talking to my favorite employee about chicken breeds she might get in. I explained that I’m looking for pretty egg colors and more exotic chicken breeds for the variety. I’d been back in my office for maybe an hour when I got a phone call. She was getting Starlight green egg layers! I pounced and asked her to hold four for me. I was afraid they would sell like hot cakes!
Today I took three roosters to a farm and came home with Elvira, a Zombie chick. She came from the same place as the nine on Mother’s Day. Elvira was the last Zombie and he has no plans to hatch more.
I am so happy to have my new chickens and can’t wait to see them grow up.

NOT chicken dinner!!!! These chickens are for eggs later, not meat. My Brian got these for me on Mother’s Day. I had been wanting Naked Neck chickens because we had some in Mexico and I love them. I’d also longed for at least one Ayam Cemani in my flock. I have a list of breeds to add to my coop, but these were the top two.
I was lucky enough to get both!!! I can’t wait to see these chicks all grown up.

If you’ve been keeping up with us, you will know we FINALLY arrived for our visit. It had been about three years since we’d been back in Virginia. We had missed family and friends long enough, so we made the trip happen. We arrived Sunday (later than I wanted to be), rested a bit (and ate some great food) and started making the rounds of visits we had on our list.
By the time we finished chatting, I was (almost) mentally ready to drive over to see “my” Judy. (Her daughters and I fight for visiting time!) We had planned to meet at Canton (Chinese place), but it was closed. Plan B landed us at Hardee’s.
Judy drove my car so we could visit another friend and her son. Lisa and C. J. have always kept in touch. Lisa’s my go-to person for class supplies, handouts, etc. It was good to reconnect.
Stay tuned for the next installment! I have to get a bit more rest….
