Cooking for my (fur) kids

I want the best for my dogs like all good dog owners, but after investigating the many healthy brands on the market, I realized I couldn’t afford any of those options.

I talked to some friends, did some online research and talked to people at the vet’s office. I finally found a recipe I can afford.

I have my daughter cook the brown rice because I am really bad at it, then I brown the ground turkey and prepare the frozen veggies. At feeding time, we add in a small amount of Nutrical to make sure the puppers get all of the nutrients they need.

When Bentley got his first taste of broccoli, he reminded me of a toddler when he picked it out of his dish and put it on the floor beside his bowl. I learned quickly and smashed up the vegetables very finely for the next batch.

Every weekend I make a week’s worth of food for Osito, Bentley and Jinxx. I also make dog treats, but I’ll talk about that later.

Extras

Friday after work, I made time to Zoom with a teacher friend of mine in Mexico. Rosario and I have been friends for many years, and we always make an effort to connect with each other’s students during the hectic school year.

Friday’s meeting with Rosario and her students only lasted about 20 minutes, but it somehow energized me. Her classroom is a bit different from ours, but students are students. It was interesting to hear the questions they had for me. They were so curious about Nebraska, our weather and (surprisingly) my age. I think the best question I heard was, “What does snow feel like?” The best I could do was compare it to the “raspaditas” in Mexico. (Raspaditas are snow cones.)

We hope to Zoom again soon. Maybe one day Rosario can Zoom into one of my classes. My students would love it.
