Candy’s Cupcakery

I took a personal day to head to North Platte to do some errands, and Bela and I made time to stop by Candy’s Cupcakery. Cassandra, the owner, made Ysabela’s cake for her 15th birthday party last year. There were so many tasty looking items that it was hard to choose! Bela finally settled on a piece of chocolate cheesecake, and I ordered a giant (and I mean giant!) sticky bun. It’s about the size of a dinner plate!  We were so stuffed from Dairy Queen, however, that we are saving our treats until tomorrow. My sticky bun will be a wonderful breakfast in the morning. 🙂

For those in North Platte or anywhere close enough to visit, you shouldn’t miss the chance to stop in and say hello.  Just in case you didn’t know, Candy’s Cupcakery offers soups as well as sweets.  The cupcakes have filling inside, and Cassandra’s cakes are spectacular.

Weather Cats

Many people I have talked to swear their pets are more accurate weather forecasters than the those on the Weather Channel. I happen to agree. My cats were literally bouncing off the walls this morning. I knew it was going to be an interesting day!

Poppy started her day by opening the cabinets and drawers at every opportunity.  Usually Smokey is involved, but she was too busy playing chase with Lil Devil.

Poppy was practicing her cat burglar skills.

My little cats knew we were getting more than an inch or two of snow.  This isn’t the first time they’ve been right!

Nebraska Views

On the way to the doctor’s office yesterday, Bela and I had the chance to take some pictures in spite of feeling icky. We even mustered the energy to take some shots on the way home.

The clouds were amazing.

Sicker than Sh—

I’ll bet I know what you were expecting me to say…. Well, that’s not it! I was going to say that I am sicker than Sheldon (The Big Bang). The beginning of the flu episode is below. Coincidentally, I watched it this week. The funniest part was when Howard forgot the protocol from the last time Sheldon was sick.

Bela came into the bedroom where I was playing dead. She took a few pictures of me and the pups. Let me start with Monday, though….

I was feeling crappy Monday evening with a sore throat that had bugged me all day. I came home and was in bed by seven. Yes, 7:00. I managed to work Tuesday, but not yesterday or today. According to the doctor, I’m out until Monday.

All of the time spent horizontal allowed me to ponder a few interesting things….like why do the pups have to sleep with their butts touching me? Why is it so difficult to make it from the bed to the potty? That was as far as my thoughts went before I nodded off. I woke up and concluded that those little dogs sure did keep me warmer than I would have been by myself. I also concluded that the bathroom was almost too far away.

Bela said I looked dead. That's almost how I felt.

Addicted!

Thanks to my students, I have discovered a new game. I am now addicted to it…it’s true. I am a crack addict. Trivia Crack, that is. Players can choose to play in several languages, so I challenged my Spanish students to play against me in Spanish. Win or lose, the kids will have a chance to test their language skills. I recently began requiring students to complete four hours of listening to podcasts or playing games outside of class, so I am giving 30 minutes of credit for playing Trivia Crack in Spanish.

Ready, Set, GO!

I have noticed that I am getting less and less tolerant of everything. I have never been the most patient person, but lately I have even less than normal. Kids misbehaving? STOP! Kids who don’t want to put in time to learn? FAIL! I can’t make people do anything, so I will allow everyone to make choices based on their goals in life. After all, I have to decide for myself. If I want to earn a living, I’ll work hard. If I want to succeed or learn a special skill, I will find a way to do it, not make an excuse for why I can’t. What all this means is that I am ready for a break! I can be packed in about ten minutes.

I’ve been looking at old photos from Mexico, and I am missing some friends and places. I’m sure you can tell by what I have posted recently! The first chance I get, I’m heading south for a few days. There are plenty of places for me to crash without worrying about paying hotel prices. I could spend days catching up with friends. We stay in touch with Facebook, but it’s not the same as sitting down over coffee.

Hopefully, one day soon I will be posting some up-dated photos of friends and places in Mexico. Until then, I will try to be more patient….
