These girls with Mo, the young roo, are starting to lay eggs. It’s been slow. In the last week or so, I have collected about 6 total, but that number should increase soon.
I have four sex link hens, four Cemani girls, Diva the Turken and Elvira the Zombie hen.
YES! You may remember that I got nine new chicks on Mother’s Day. I really thought I was done for this round. Brian hoped I was finished.
One of my older hens dropped dead a week later, and I realized that my established flock is getting to that age. I also wanted more colors in my egg basket.
I went to TSC for critter food and started talking to my favorite employee about chicken breeds she might get in. I explained that I’m looking for pretty egg colors and more exotic chicken breeds for the variety. I’d been back in my office for maybe an hour when I got a phone call. She was getting Starlight green egg layers! I pounced and asked her to hold four for me. I was afraid they would sell like hot cakes!
Today I took three roosters to a farm and came home with Elvira, a Zombie chick. She came from the same place as the nine on Mother’s Day. Elvira was the last Zombie and he has no plans to hatch more.
I am so happy to have my new chickens and can’t wait to see them grow up.
